As cities rapidly expand, managing environmental acoustic quality has become an essential dimension of livable and human-centric urban design. Traditional urban planning often treats sound primarily as a pollutant to be mitigated, neglecting the restorative potential of positive acoustic environments. This Capacity Building Programme (CBP) introduces planners, architects, and municipal officials to the methodology of urban sound mapping and soundscape planning, with a specific focus on public green spaces and urban parks.

The training explores techniques for capturing, measuring, and spatially mapping acoustic environments to inform spatial design decisions. Participants will learn how to integrate acoustic comfort into landscape architecture, preserve tranquil urban sanctuaries, and design urban parks that enhance well-being and public health through optimized acoustic environments.
