Projects

The A-CUPCB-SPAV envisages taking up projects which have a core research component in terms creating new knowledge base, or creating new products, or new computing frameworks, but which are essentially embedded in the context and applicability of an urban local body. There shall be two types of Research projects:

City Specific Applied Research Project

(city scale with solution oriented urban research | 10 months):

  • There are 02 such projects taken up, which identifies a specific issue or challenge or problem or potential in a city level scale, and works out a practical scientific and innovative solution for the same, which can be adopted by the ULB for implementation.

  • Such projects shall be of a higher expenditure sanction and shall be of duration of about 10 months each, so that within first year two workable solutions for two cities are prepared by the Centre. Such ‘City Specific Applied Research Projects’ shall be executed by a minimum 03 member core SPAV Faculty team.

Targeted Urban Research

(sub-city scale with basic urban research leading to broader approaches and methodologies | 8 months):

  • There shall be 03 such smaller scale projects envisaged, which identifies a specific issue or challenge or problem at the sub-city level, and investigates deeply into the issues in terms of its potential causes and repercussions and leads to suggestions which can serve as advisory to Urban Local Bodies during framing or Master Plan of Annual Budget or their routine operations.
  •  
  • Such ‘Targeted Urban Research Projects’ shall be executed by a maximum 02 member core SPAV Faculty team. Such projects shall be of a lower expenditure sanction and shall be of duration of about 06-08 months each, so that within first year four directions are prepared by the Centre.

This function shall be need based and research projects shall be taken up as per the requirements and needs of the local or national authorities. Research projects taken up shall not limit itself to only urban and city planning projects, but may delve deep into peri-urban areas.
