SPA-Vijayawada declared as AMRUT Funded Centre

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Government of India has recognised SPA Vijayawada as one of the few centers in the country, that shall undertake top-notch, cutting-edge research, projects, and training in the field of urban planning and climate sensitive development. SPA Vijayawada (Under Ministry of Education, Government of India) has been declared as the prestigious “AMRUT Centre of Urban Planning for Capacity Building” at SPA Vijayawada (ACUPCB-SPAV) by the MoHUA, Government of India. The ACUPCB-SPAV is a hallmark of SPAV’s capability, resources and potential in leading the path of research and advocacy in the domain of Urban Planning in India. The Centre has initiated several innovation driven research projects in the field of Environmentally Sensitive Urban Planning and Settlement Design. The projects are being undertaken in collaboration with local bodies and stakeholders. The ACUPCB-SPAV has already initiated several capacity building programmes and have already trained over 140 professionals across India. The ACUPCB is constantly in the process of expanding its outreach in data driven applications and solutions for urban planning and climate sensitive design.

A combination of the five mandates of the A-CUPCB shall leverage it to become not only a unique platform to empower and enable the local bodies and communities, but also serve as a one point nodal centre to provide advocacy, research innovations and advice related to urban planning and design. Capacity Building

The core function of the A-CUPCB shall be to build capacities of the all segments of experts, organisations, and society that serve as stakeholders in settlement planning and design.

Research Projects

A-CUPCB-SPAV

The A-CUPCB-SPAV envisages taking up projects which have a core research component in terms creating new knowledge base, or creating new products, or new computing frameworks

Advocacy

A-CUPCB-SPAV

The A-CUPCB-SPAV shall play significant and prominent role in liaison-ing with the local government in Southern India to provide technical advocacy.

Spatial Data Infrastructure

A-CUPCB-SPAV

The A-CUPCB-SPAV envisages to create a ‘spatial data infrastructure’ that shall be a ‘digital portal’ containing spatial information and maps relevant to planners and urban development officials for specific regions from South India.
